The town was previously known as "HINDORGARH" & "KISHOR SINGH KI NAGRI"
It is said that People of city with their king Kishor Singh also participated in the
"INDIA'S FIRST WAR OF INDEPENDENCE" in1857.

According to some legends,
Once the king of Hindorgarh was captured by the king of PANNA,
meanwhile british army attacked hindoria.
The british fired by tank towards the king's palace (currently the Mukarwa ward Mandir)
and when the army commando was entering in the palace, a brave man cut the commando's head by hanging on the main entry gate itself,
Thus saved the Queen.
And the britishers gone away from Hindorgarh.
After listening such a bravery act the king of PANNA released the king of HINDORIA.
